📣Attention All Artists!!
YOU have a RIGHT over your ARTWORK even AFTER it's SOLD. This RIGHT is given to you by the JUDICIARY OF PAKISTAN.
About 8 months ago I was ordered to make drawings or paintings on a topic by a client to get them printed on knitted fabric. The topic was The Transition of Empress Market, Karachi. Most of us especially karchietes recognise the place and its transitional phases through time. The aim was to show the different eras and changes through which this 70 years old building passed.
Being a passionately patriotic person, I took this task excitedly. The client was a student so I gave a remarkable discount. My generosity was taken for granted and a good deed became my mistake. Its a long story which I may share some other time. But for now there's only one thing to clarify to those who think that
😈"artists don't have any right over their art once they have sold it."
☢️This is a misconception not only shared by a few of the clients but also by the artists themselves. To be honest, I was also under this impression, but then this happened to me: My client said that I could not get credit for the work I did because I was being paid for it.🤨
The client wanted to claim that the paintings were made by them.😢💔More over I was being accused of cheating and black mailing.🙄I set their ethics straight by just keeping steady on my ground, got my name on the paintings Alhamd o lillah, and learnt lessons of life time.
Don't want to do name shaming of the client or the concerned institute so kept it secret. But if anyone wants guidance on such issue, search for the law against PLAGIARISM on Google.
